Wall access panel for drywall behind shower tiles?

Retiling the master shower and want access to the mixing valve without removing tiles every time. Needs to be tileable or at least accept thinset without cracking. Has anyone done this successfully?

Tiling over access panels is doable if you pick the right one. I use models with completely flat, removable doors and no raised lips—makes setting tile flush much easier. Rough up the panel face slightly for better thinset grip, then tile right over it. The latch is recessed push-style so it doesn’t interfere with grout. After grouting and sealing the whole wall looks uniform until you press the corner to open. I put in a tough wall access panel for drywall (14×14) behind the tiles last year and it’s held up through daily use with zero cracks or leaks. Dry-fit your tile layout first to plan around the frame.
